OK BAI
the_day_setup
I'm not even sure yet which Week 34 *entry* I lost on, as I am packing up for a vacation / lack time to look... and sounds like a nutty triple bypass quadruple immunity double secret probation situation anyway, so I will just have to take clauderainsrm's honorable word on this. He's only lied to me a couple of times.

I came in this season with no "real-world" LJ friends aware of what I was doing, no previous LJI alliances, etc., so I am BEYOND surprised and honored to have made it this far-- it's been kind of surprising to survive every week for the last, oh, like, twenty to twenty-five. Thanks to all those of you who gave me a fair shake, that means a lot.

It's def been a lot of fun interacting with y'all this season and I hope some of you will consider joining me on my "real" Ellijayz, where I tend not to write 3500-word entries on the whole, I promise.

My real account is lossfound. I'm slowly getting it kickstarted again after a long hiatus. It *is* friends-only; add me as a friend over there and I will be happy to reciprocate / grant access within a week or so, whenever I get logged back in.

Thinking I'll probably be back for the final LJI season-- though not in anything resembling this guise. I'm not sure if I'll be impossible to identify or way too easy. Guess we'll find out.

Bye, and best o' luck to the remaining IDOL CHAMPIONSSSsssss.

Week 34-3: Tosh-é.0
the_day_setup
I had posted an entry on this same topic on Friday. A few hours later, I took it down. It was far too long and, as such, was too prone to being partially read / partially misread-- an idea I did not like, given a rather sensitive topic.

porn_this_way got in touch with me, and had apparently read what I'd written before I'd removed it. The resulting fun back-and-forth, along with ongoing dumb discussion of the "current event" that was the focus of my original post in other online hangouts of mine, convinced me to try and rewrite the whole thing from scratch, this time keeping it much shorter. This is the result. Thanks, PTW (and do be sure to enjoy her own, much funnier entry on the topic).

Week 34-2: "Yo dawg, I herd you like therapy..."

...so we put a therapist in your therapist so you can talk about yo'feelings about yo'feelings while you talk about yo'feelings...Collapse )

Week 34-1: Not the augury-test story ever told, auto-warn you; gimme a brake, don't flame or nothin'

Trigger warning (for me only, since I have a real problem with shit catching fire): Shit catches fire.

Week 33-2: This entry's a lot shorter than it looks. ...No, honest.

FRIDAY

posted on local Craigslist by yours truly:

Craigslist Instrument X
Here is blah blah blah and here is my price.

Make sure you use the phrase "not a spammer" somewhere in your email. Vague replies that could easily be from a spambot, like "Do you still have this", without "not a spammer" or some other signs of human life and cognition in the message body, will be ignored.

Craigslist Instrument Y
Here is something else blah blah blah and here is my price. No trades.

I'll repeat that: No trades. See the guy in the pic? He has a gun. No, he's not me, I'm uh not nearly as uh "cool" as this guy, but... fuck you, don't even try it anyway.

Again, make sure you put the text "not a spammer" somewhere in your emailed reply. If this ad is still posted on Craigslist, I still have it, so plz don't ask the dreaded "do you still have it" question; such replies are awfully close to spamfarms' usual come-on lines, don't you know?

LET THE CRAIGSLIST-BUYER FOLLIES BEGINCollapse )

Week 33-1: Everybody shut up. Listen to the band.
the_day_setup
I've been playing / writing music for something like 29-30 of my 36 years, and I've had some rudimentary abilities on all of the basic rock instruments for about 23-24 of said 29-30 years. So you'd think I would have been in more bands over the years.

The thing is, I made myself learn all those rock instruments because I was essentially a selfish dick. Having developed a serious interest in writing my own music, but frustrated with the lack of talented and/or like-minded musical collaborators in my junior high school (class size: 60), I wanted to play everything myself. And I figured out how to do it, both as a rudimentary instrumentalist and rudimentary home recordist.

As I got older, I became more of a selfish dick. By my late teens, I was used to creating relatively full-sounding rock arrangements on tape without having to deal with the input of others, and I really didn't want to have anyone else's stamp on my work.

Never mind that it's impossible to replicate such arrangements live without bringing on others, and that you kind of need to play live to get any kind of word-of-mouth going.

I undoubtedly missed a lot of cool musical opportunities by being a selfish dick. Story of my life, though. I guess there are a few such opportunities I managed to take, even if they're not much... and even if I often did so reluctantly.

OUTTAKE week 32: HELLO, DIY. GOOOOOOODBYEEEEEE.
the_day_setup

On thinking it over, while this project is definitely one that I find exciting and I kept things reasonably succinct for once, I decided that an episode of These Old Drums might not be maximally resonant (see what I did there?!) for the LJI readership. I will leave this here for those who like fabric swatches and potential tales of vomit-inducing sanding, and head back to the drawing board this afternoon.

Week 31 original / unexpurgated
the_day_setup
This is the original post in its entirety. The 'official' version is now half as long due to somewhat-understandable complaints about its length... but I *liked* the original, so I'm saving it here. You don't need to read both; they both get to the same place, just via slightly different routes.Collapse )

If you read this "unexpurgated" version, comments still go here. (Yes, I've *purposely* disabled them on THIS version, this time out.)

Week 31: THIS IS FRRRRRRRESH AIR.
the_day_setup

edit: Comments were disabled on this post, apparently. This wasn't intentional. Fixed now. Please flame away at will.

edit 2: By "popular" "request," I have significantly shortened this entry (prior to the final posting deadline, of course).

(The original full-length post is still available here, but I think the below will be enough for most folks to get the cut of my jib.)

My topic of choice: Why I "hate" National Public Radio, and why you should too.

Week(s) 30-6: Vacation. Right.

An LJI original meta-song in new-fangled MP3 format

Once again: Click on this and you'll hear stuff.
If not, right-click on the pic and save the MP3 somewhere so you can hear stuff.
Note: Very slightly NSFW; quite likely to arouse attention from adjacent cubicle-dwellers (for the gainfully employed).

Big thanks to theafaye, without whom this entry literally would not have been possible.
